Something new. Hope you like it. Been tweaking for about a year.
The Teaching
Jesus, I feel so small, so helpless
Upon the cross stirred the vision of big people looking down into a tiny manger.
Jesus replied - I understand; my Mother taught me that.
Jesus, I feel so tempted
Upon the cross stirred the vision of forty days in the wilderness.
Jesus replied - I understand; the Adversary taught me that.
Jesus, I feel so angry
Upon the cross stirred the vision of merchants filling the Gentile’s court.
Jesus replied - I understand; the robbers in the temple taught me that.
Jesus, I feel so drained
Upon the cross the cries of the sick for healing echoed.
Jesus replied - I understand; the sick taught me that.
Jesus, I feel pain.
Upon the cross, the sweat trickled into the gouges from whip lashes
Jesus replied - I understand; the Romans taught me that.
Jesus, I feel despair
Upon the cross stirred the vision of the empty and barren Potter’s field.
Jesus replied - I understand; Judas taught me that.
Jesus, I feel betrayed.
Upon the cross rang the sound of a cock crowing three times.
Jesus replied - I understand; Simon Peter taught me that.
Jesus, I feel so alone, so abandoned
Upon the cross the world’s sins crushed his shoulders, compressing the emptiness inside.
Jesus replied - I understand; my Father taught me that.
Jesus, I feel so overwhelmed
Upon the cross he saw the hunger in my soul that echoed his own.
Jesus replied - I understand; give me that.
Jesus, I feel reborn.
From beyond the cross, the bright, smiling son lit my world.
Jesus replied - I understand; I taught you that.
